The Arnold Home celebrated their 50th aniversary July of 1999. The home was established by Marjorie R. Cook in 1949, it is now being loved and managed by Sally Thatcher, her daughter and Kimberly Arpin, her grandaughter. Since it's founding, this family owned and operated facility has earned a reputation as one of the finest in the state. We feel we owe that distinction to three generations of uncompromising commitment and dedication to providing individualized care for each of our residents in a warm, home-like atmosphere. It's love that gives our lives purpose, value and fullfillment. And, it's love that guides most of our choices throughout life. At Arnold House, we know about life's choices and love. Resident and staff alike happily share in them daily. We also know that sometimes those decisions may be hard to make, but when viewed from the perspective of genuine caring about others, the difficulties seem to diminish and the answers become clearer.

That's an integral part of our philosophy. We'd like to show you how it translates into a unique home environment that is rich in nurture, friendship activity and comfort...a day-to-day experience of living fully with dignity and self respect.

Conveniently located in an estate like setting on the edge of a rolling golf course, Arnold House is one of the very few private-care nursing homes in Massachusetts. Since it's founding in 1949, this family owned and operated facility has earned a reputation as one of the finest in the state.

We feel we owe that distinction to three generations of uncompromising commitment. We are dedicated to providing individualized care for each of our residents in a warm, home-like atmosphere. By doing so, we truly believe that staff and residents, together, become an extended family.

This is as much an attitude as it is a philosophy. And, it's one that reflected in many ways from the elegantly furnished rooms to the level of concern demonstrated by each employee and professional associated with Arnold House.

From breakfast 'till evening, residents at Arnold House are encouraged to lead as active a day as each one is able. A variety of recreational and social functions are carefully arranged on a weekly basis with ample time left for private pursuits and hobbies. Music,TV, Crafts, and a generous supply of reading materials provide both entertainment and relaxation for those residents with restricted movement or disability.

While visits from family or friends are always welcomed and eagerly anticipated, holidays, birthdays and special occasions create a festive mood throughout the house and provide an opportunity for both residents and staff to share in celebration. In addition to caring for physical, social, and spiritual needs, Arnold House presents a gracious lifestyle. It's one designed to preserve and enhance the joy of living fully in a manner that assures personal happiness.

Arnold House offers spacious single and double rooms which are tastefully decorated. The blend of antiques, architectural detail and other furnishings remind many visitors of a country inn. Residents may add their own personal touches to room decor with one or two favorite pieces of furniture, pictures, and /or other mementoes which will make their rooms more homelike. Of course, interior design must always incorporate safety and medical considerations first.

Of all the rooms in the house, our colonial dining room is probably the one most enjoyed by the majority of the residents. Here, delicious meals and lively conversation take center stage with all of the appointments like fine china, silver, fresh flowers and linen that make dining here a truly pleasurable experience. Our food is of the highest quality and all dietary requirements prescribed by the physicians are followed to the letter. Tray service is available for any who need it.

Other common area rooms include two comfortable parlors, a music room, sun porch, and TV/activity room. While each has its own ambience, all of our rooms are plushly furnished and decorated in a quietly elegant style. Warm weather invites residents out to our formal garden to enjoy the sunshine by walking, lounging, or just sitting lazily under an umbrella to read.

HEALTH CARE

The individual needs of each resident are our primary concern. Nowhere is this more critical than in the area of health care. Our Licensed staff of RNs and LPNs provide complete-around the clock nursing care for any who need it. While we do provide transportation to medical specialists, personal physicians regularly visit Arnold House. If a resident's doctor does not offer in-home examinations and treatment, we can recommend physicians who will be happy to routinely make "house Calls."

Other health-care professionals also visit Arnold House on a routine basis. These include dentists, podiatrists, and therapists (physical, speech and occupational). Private duty nursing and diagnostic services (lab and X-ray) are arranged for as well whenever needed. Prescribed medications, diet, and use of medical equipment are always scrupulously monitored to minimize any margin of error or oversight.

EXTRA CURRICULA

Rounding out the opportunities for meaningful living at Arnold House is a variety of special activities in which most of our "family" excitedly participates. These activities break the routine and are designed to prevent boredom from creeping in to the residents' lives. Our afternoon teas during the week are always popular, exercise classes are usually very well attended and residents also participate in our gardening program on the grounds.

Suprisingly, we have quite an active political discussion group that keeps many of the residents regularly voting either at the polls or by absentee ballot. While the parties and special dinners at Arnold House are the culinary highpoints of the year, our Lobster and Clam Bakes are very popular! Frequent Field Trips like: foliage rides, museum tours, visits to Boston, theater junkets, and picnics are a few examples of our outings that provide still more diversion and entertainment. In addition to preventing "cabin fever," these excursions encourage residents to remain actively engaged in cultural and educational pursuits.

RESPITE CARE FOR YOUR LOVED-ONE

In addition to caring for long term care residents, we do offer the same service for a short term stay. This allows the primary care giver an opportunity for a vacation, a rest or simply a break in the routine of twenty-four hour care for a loved one. Respite care is offered on a space permitting basis. Please call us for information. We would be most happy to be of service to you and your family.
